The artwork depicts a beautiful little stonechat standing on some brambles. Stonechats are small birds, similar in size to robins. Julian’s painting portrays a male stonechat in that you can see the stunning black head and orange breast of the bird. The reason that they are called stonechats is that their bird calls sound like stones being hit together.
